What is an umbrella company?

An umbrella company is an alternative to being paid PAYE by an agency. If you use Advance umbrella, a reputable umbrella, this is as safe and compliant as being paid under PAYE by your agency.

You become an employee of Advance umbrella and receive all the statutory rights that go with your employment, including a guaranteed minimum hours clause, which forms part of a mutual obligation between Advance umbrella and you, the employee, to work together to the benefit of each other.

In addition, by working through Advance umbrella, you can claim expenses that you incur whilst going about your work on temporary projects. This could improve your take home pay so long as your expenses are necessarily incurred in the performance of your duties, and as long as you continue to work on temporary or fixed term projects that are acceptable under the definitions laid down by HMRC.
